Ever wonder why your photos never look like the ones you saved on Pinterest? Those cinematic, motion blur, true emotion ones. Let’s talk about it!

Obviously the first step is to hire a photographer that specializes in a cinematic approach. You want lots of movement and prompts over poses.

The second step is to lean into the prompts and think of your session as a movie! I know it sounds silly but this keeps you in the moment instead of wondering if your hair looks perfect. The goal isn’t perfection, it’s connection! If you don’t feel connected during your session, your photos will show that. There will be no story, just a bunch of photos forcing a smile at the camera. Talk to each other, tell jokes, go in for some kisses, and just have a good time.

This past year I have second shot more than ever for a handful of amazing photographers! These are photographers that I look up to and to work by their side is an honor. Working as a second shooter over the last year has changed the way I shoot and capture a wedding day, in the best way possible.

On wedding days I always was trying to stick to the timeline and rush to the next thing to make sure we got all the important events and moments captured. Each couple sends me a shot list and I wanted to make sure they got those specific shots. But what I was overlooking in the chaos was the emotion, the connections, the love. I was so worried about capturing the ceremony I forgot to turn around and capture the guests crying at the vows, or the grandparent watching through the door as their granddaughter puts on her jewelry.

These moments that you can’t find on a shot list because you can’t produce these moments. Over the past year I have incorporated capturing the couple as well as the environment around them to portray the full emotion of the day. The photos and films that will carry the story of the day in the albums and on walls that we will share with our future generations. These are just as important as the posed and prompted shots of the day, maybe even more so.

I will be continuing this mindset in 2026 and I can’t wait to capture your story in its entirety 🖤
